Water Tank Care Blog
Practical, straightforward guides on looking after your water tanks and sumps.
Signs your water tank may need cleaning
Common signs include visible sediment at the bottom of buckets, a change in water smell or colour, slimy deposits on the tank walls when you lift the lid, or reduced flow caused by debris in outlets. If you notice any of these, it may be time to have the tank inspected and cleaned.
Sump vs overhead tank: what’s the difference?
A sump stores water underground, usually from BWSSB lines or tankers; a motor pumps it to the overhead tank, which supplies your taps by gravity. Since water passes through both, it often makes sense to clean them together. Read more on sump cleaning and overhead tank cleaning.
Simple habits between cleanings
- Keep tank lids closed and in good condition.
- Check that overflow pipes are covered with mesh.
- Keep the area around the sump manhole clean and dry.
